Parents Charged for Services at Gyumri's Austrian Hospital

Due to acute respiratory infections, there are no available inpatient rooms in the pediatric department of the Austrian hospital in Gyumri. Numerous cases of pneumonia have been recorded.

Anahit Avagyan contacted Armdaily.am regarding her grandchild being hospitalized. She mentioned that her grandchild and daughter-in-law have been hospitalized for four days: “We still haven’t received the results of the tests taken four days ago.” Ms. Avagyan noted that there were four other children in the room besides them. “Then two of them were discharged.”

The nurses provided no explanations and stated that they needed to change rooms, indicating that another child was to be admitted: “They didn’t answer any questions, just said another child is coming.” Ms. Avagyan stated that she would file a complaint and call Yerevan. “At that time they said, if you want, you can go to your room.”

Ms. Avagyan pointed out that the hospital is charging fees from patients. “They should check the rooms and see how parents are buying medications from the pharmacy across the street, even though we were given a signature that our treatment is free.”
