Updated: Black Ice, Closed and Difficult Roads

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reports that as of January 18 at 19:50, there are difficult and closed roadways within the territory of Armenia.

The Vardenyats Pass is closed for freight trucks with trailers, while the rest are difficult to navigate.

The Sotk-Karmiravank road and the roads leading to the villages of Mirak and Charjik in the Aragatsotn region are also difficult to navigate.

Black ice is present at various locations on the roads of Ashotik and Amasia in Shirak province, as well as in the Aparan and Aragats regions of Aragatsotn province.

Blizzard conditions are reported in the villages of Bavra and Yeghnajur in Shirak province.

Drivers are advised to travel strictly with winter tires.

About Lars

According to information received from the Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the Stepanavan-Lars road is closed for all types of vehicles due to the risk of avalanches.

According to information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of North Ossetia, there are currently 165 freight trucks, 120 passenger cars, and 1 bus stranded on the Russian side.

Ongoing Construction Works

Construction works are ongoing on the Vanadzor-Alaverdi road from the 39th km to Bagratashen.

The following alternative routes for vehicular traffic have been established:

  • Local traffic towards the cities of Alaverdi and Vanadzor and nearby areas should take the Vanadzor-Stepanavan-Agarak-Koghes-Aygehati-Odzun-Alaverdi road sections towards the Georgian border.

From June 30, 2018, until January 18 of this year, construction works are being carried out at the 139th km of the Yerevan-Meghri highway, causing one side of approximately 200 meters to be closed.
