Snow, Blizzard and Low Visibility: Some Roads Closed
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies of Armenia has announced that as of January 17, 20:00, snowfall is occurring on the roads of the regions of Artik, Stepanavan, Ashotsk, Vanadzor, Alaverdi, Sevan, Vardenis, Kotayk, Yeghvard, Martuni, Vayk, Sisian, Goris, and Meghri.
The Artik-Bavra stretch of road is impassable due to strong blizzards and low visibility. Drivers are advised to travel on this road only if absolutely necessary.
Due to severe blizzards and low visibility, the Keti mountain pass is also impassable.
Blizzards are affecting roads in the regions of Artik, Aparan, Akhuryan, Talin, and Meghri, as well as on the Jajur mountain pass, along the Sisian-Goris and Talin-Magalik-Mastara stretches, and in the Tigranashen curves.
The Vardenyats mountain pass is impassable for passenger vehicles, while it is closed for heavy and towing vehicles.
Road construction workers are performing snow clearing and salt and sand treatment on the roads.
The other interstate and national roads of Armenia are open.
According to the road department of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia, as of January 17, at 20:30, the Stepantsminda-Lars road is closed to all vehicles.
