Director of Gyumri Hospital Discusses Death of 5-Month-Old Infant

On January 4, a 5-month-old child died at the Austrian Mother and Child Hospital in Gyumri, and the forensic examination is not yet complete.

This was stated by the hospital director, Ashot Kurghinyan, to Shantnews. Whether the physician is to blame for the child’s death or if there were other causes will only be determined by the examination, according to Kurghinyan.

“We do not yet have the final pathological diagnoses from the autopsy. The most important results are the tissue diagnoses, which can clarify the cause of death. Until that diagnosis is available, I cannot provide any assessment. The child arrived in an agonal state. We could not provide a definitive diagnosis within 40 minutes,” he said.

The child was admitted to the hospital in that condition and was placed in the intensive care unit. Questions remain regarding whether the child had received previous treatment, whether he sought care that day, or if he had not sought care. The investigation will provide answers to those questions,” Ashot Kurghinyan told the media.
