The H1N1 Subtype A Virus, Known as 'Swine Flu', is Circulating in the Country

According to the World Health Organization, the countries in the European region continue to report influenza and acute respiratory infections due to the seasonality of these diseases.

Laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza are 99.6% caused by subtype A (H1N1 and H3N2), with 1% attributed to type B strains. The same situation is observed in nearby countries. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

The situation regarding acute respiratory infections and influenza in the Republic of Armenia is typical for the season. According to daily monitoring results, 642 visits to outpatient clinics were recorded as of January 8. Currently, 597 patients with acute respiratory infections are hospitalized in the country’s hospitals. Of the recorded cases, 96% are among children. Regarding emergency calls due to acute respiratory infections, there were 130 calls. According to laboratory research results, the H1N1 subtype A virus is circulating in the country.

Considering that after the winter break educational activities in schools and kindergartens have resumed, as well as taking into account the current seasonal situation of influenza and acute respiratory infections, the Ministry of Health once again urges and reminds the public:

  • Avoid contact with individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms;
  • If you are sick, stay home and do not go to work. If your child is ill, do not allow them to attend school or kindergarten;
  • If you or your child are unwell, call your local pediatrician, therapist, or family doctor, and avoid self-medication;
  • Do not use antibiotics and do not give them to your children without a doctor's advice, as they are not indicated for flu treatment;
  • Dress appropriately for the weather and teach your children proper habits for coughing and sneezing;
  • Drink plenty of fluids;
  • Aerate closed areas frequently;
  • Maintain personal hygiene for you and your children by washing hands frequently with warm water and soap.

It is worth noting that the circulating influenza pathogen A H1N1 is commonly referred to as 'swine flu'.
