Mandatory Labeling of GMO Products in the EAEU Begins December 26
From December 26, products containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) must be labeled with a special sign. This is stated in the technical regulation on 'Food Labeling.'
According to the requirements of the document, the sign must be placed on the package if the GMO content in the product exceeds 0.9 percent. The term 'GMO' must be located next to the unified mark for product circulation in the EAEU market and must correspond in form and size to that mark.
To allow businesses to adapt to the new regulations, a transitional period of 1.5 years has been established. During this period, the production of GMO-containing products and their release for circulation in the EAEU market is permitted under the previous labeling requirements.
